Blog - Important information about Apple's new iOS7 Activation Lock feature

Find My iPhoneFind My iPhone

As you may, or may not already be aware Apple have recently introduced a new feature called "Activation Lock" in the new iOS7 firmware (available on iPhone 4/4S, iPhone 5/5C/5S, iPod Touch, iPad 2/3/4/5 & iPad Mini).

The new activation lock feature is enabled and disabled by turning on/off the "Find my iPhone" feature in Settings\iCloud on your iDevice. The "Find my iPhone" feature is linked to your Apple ID/iCloud account. When this feature is enabled it will prevent anyone (who doesnt know your Apple ID/Password) from wiping, activating, updating & restoring the device (even from DFU mode).

What does this mean for me?

If you are buying, selling or unlocking a used iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or iPad Mini, you should always ask the selller to turn off "Find My iPhone" and delete ALL previous user data and accounts before making the purchase and handing over the cash. If you do not do this you run the risk of becoming the proud new owner of a very expensive paperwieght!

If you are ordering an unlock service for a used iPhone you need to be aware that we can not issue any refunds for completed unlocks if you later find that the iPhone you are unlocking has Activation Lock enabled.

Before ordering an unlock service you should always check the settings below are turned off and all old user data is wiped before updating to iOS7.

If you are buying or selling a used iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch you MUST ensure Find my iPhone is turned off, you can do this by going to Settings\iCloud\Find my iPhone (as shown in the picture below)
